Captain John Spangler (aka,"CJ"), has over 30 years of experience in charter boat fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. As a young boy he and his family traveled to Rock Hall, Maryland, for their summer vacation, where he mated for an old salt, Captain Farnsworth Sewell. His love of the Bay and fishing continued throughout his childhood and into his adulthood. In the mid 1970's, he was the Director of Waterfront at St. Mary's College of Maryland, where he ran his first charter, "The Golden Run". In the 1990's, he owned and operated the "Osprey", out of Solomon's Island, Maryland. He is now the proud owner/operator of "Catnip".

Captain John "CJ" has a love for fishing and for his two cats, Sissy and Moonshine, who say that fishing to him is the same as catnip is to them. Sissy and Moonshine requested that the boat be named in honor of them. Thus, the name "CATNIP".

Captain John is a member of the following organizations:

Deale Captain's Association
